What is Mental Health?

Adapted from the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)

Mental health is an important part of our general well-being. It includes our emotional, psychological, physical, and social well-being. It can affect how we think, feel and act and how we deal with everyday life stressors.

Not everyone will experience mental illness, but we all have periods of time when we struggle with our mental health. Mental illnesses are health problems that affect the way we think about ourselves, relate to others, and interact with the world around us. They affect our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Mental illnesses can disrupt a person’s life or create challenges, but with the right supports, a person can get back on a path to recovery and wellness.
